Summer Game Fest 2026 is officially underway following today's PlayStation State of Play. The June 2 showcase was treated by Sony as an opportunity to dive deeper into the biggest upcoming PS5 games, and the publisher went big with new exclusives and plenty of release date reveals.
Below you'll find our pick of the best announcements from the Sony State of Play – including the return of an iconic PlayStation horror franchise, a new God of War game, and plenty more besides. PlayStation concluded its June State of Play with a monster 20-minute gameplay showcase for a brand-new PS5 exclusive. In development at Sony Santa Monica is God of War Laufey, an all-new spin-off that features a new realm to explore and protagonist to control.
That's right, this new God of War won't star Kratos, but rather the sword-wielding Faye. This is a prequel and there's so much detail to get into – so go check that reveal gameplay trailer out for yourself!

Marvel's Wolverine kicked off State of Play with an uninterrupted stretch of gameplay, captured on PS5 Pro. Insomniac promised us that there would be blood, but you aren't mentally prepared for the ultra-violence. It looks utterly fantastic.
We also got a fresh look at Mystique and Sabertooth, as well as confirmation Jean Grey will feature prominently. Marvel's Wolverine lands on PS5 on September 15, and pre-orders are now available.

There's finally a new Until Dawn game on the way, over a decade since the Supermassive Games classic revolutionised the horror genre. This new instalment has it all: a tropical island, a group of ghost hunters, a crazed group of cannibals, and a new developer!
That's right, Sony's own Firesprite Games is taking this one on as Until Dawn 2 prepares to launch for PS5 in 2027.

If you were looking forward to diving into the new remake of the original Tomb Raider later this year, I do have some bad news for you. Amazon Games took to State of Play to announce that it is pushing Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis back to 2027. Thankfully, the upcoming remake, in development at Flying Wild Hog, does have a firm release date of February 10.

Capcom is on one hell of a roll this year, with both Resident Evil Requiem and Pragmata proving to be massive successes. So now all attention turns to the upcoming action game Onimusha: Way of the Sword. We finally know when we'll be able to get our hands on the PS5 release, with Capcom confirming a September 25, 2026, release date for Onimusha's long-awaited return.

Ubisoft unveiled a remake of 2013's Rayman Legends, with the legendary platformer set to hit PS5 on October 1, 2026. We've already played it, and the early signs are very positive.

Funcom's open world Survival RPG has gone from strength to strength since its PC release last year. Dune Awakening is finally coming to PS5, along with a new single-player mode, on Sep 22.

Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve gets a October 2, 2026, release date as Bandai Namco announced that pre-orders are online along with a bunch of bonuses which celebrate the series' 30th anniversary.

Silent Hill: Townfall creeps ever closer, as Konami announces that this standalone spin-off adventure (built in collaboration with Screen Burn Interactive and Annapurna) is coming September 24, 2026.
