Unexpected team-ups can be pretty cool, don’t you think? Sometimes it’s simply an unusual combination like nods to classic Hollywood films showing up in a Minions movie. It’s almost as if Minions & Monsters director Pierre Coffin called up on the spirits of his cinematic heroes to lend a certain weight to the humor in his latest animated franchise entry. |
But even the promotional items in today’s newsletter feature new collaborations. First, there’s the undeniably fun idea of combining Resident Evil’s survival horror with the creatures of Monster Hunter in the latest event from the mobile game Resident Evil Survival Unit. And one of our favorite podcasts, Roddenberry Entertainment’s Does It Fly?, has teamed up with Brian Volk-Weiss and The Nacelle Company to bring a broader audience to this discussion series that absolutely everyone should be listening to. |

Minions & Monsters Easter Eggs and Hollywood History Explained by the Director |
In our exclusive interview with longtime Minions creator Pierre Coffin, the director of Minions & Monsters explains how the new movie became a love letter to classic Hollywood, silent comedy, and Universal's monster legacy. From the opening logo sequence to a remarkable series of old Hollywood references, Coffin reveals why looking back at cinema history was the perfect way to make the latest Minions adventure feel fresh. |
Along the way, Coffin breaks down the inspiration behind the film's biggest Easter eggs, including nods to Citizen Kane, Casablanca, Modern Times, Safety Last!, Singin' in the Rain, and Universal's classic monster movies. He also shares childhood memories of horror films that helped shaped the movie's creatures, the influences slapstick legends like Charlie Chaplin and Buster Keaton had on animation, and his hopes that curious kids will leave the theater wanting to discover the classics for themselves. |

Resident Evil Survival Unit Teams Up with Monster Hunter |
The worlds of Resident Evil and Monster Hunter are colliding in a new limited-time event for Resident Evil Survival Unit, giving mobile players a chance to hunt some of Capcom's most iconic monsters instead of the usual infected hordes. Running through July 29, the crossover introduces fearsome beasts like Yian Kut-Ku and Rathalos, along with exclusive heroes, cosmetics, and plenty of rewards designed to tempt both longtime players and Monster Hunter fans. |
The collaboration also brings over the Monster Hunter signature traditions of hunting and cooking your prey for bonuses. We break down everything included in the event, which may just be the biggest update Resident Evil Survival Unit has seen since launch. Discover why this might be the perfect time to jump into (or back into) the game before these limited-time rewards disappear. Check it out in the app store now! |
